Scripture Union Daily Guide – 31ST December 2024
TOPIC: GOD OUR REFUGE THROUGH THE YEARS OF CHANGE
OPENING PRAYER: Help me to understand the exceeding greatness of your power as I read through this passage, dear Lord.
SCRIPTURE: PSALM 90:1-17
Question(s) for Reflection
* Q7: What truth is God revealing to me in this passage?
Scripture Union Daily Guide – 31ST December 2024 Outline:
This Psalm is believed to have been written by Moses. It presents the frailty of humans and the shortness of our lives in contrast to the power and eternity of God. Experience had taught Moses that amidst the perpetual changes taking place in the universe, God is still from everlasting to everlasting.
Note the concept of time in relation to God in v.4. (Take note of the word ‘like’ in this verse (cf. 2 Peter 3:8)). Some people erroneously use the ‘thousand years’ concept to calculate the day of Christ’s return. It is ‘like’, not it ‘is’. This shows us how everlasting God is. What is your concept of time? In vs.5-8, it is God who takes away the generations of men. Humans are like grass with only a short lifespan.
Sin provokes God to anger and vs.7-8 is a reference to Israel’s disobedience and sentence of death in the wilderness. (See Numbers 14:33-34). Do we take sin in our lives as seriously as God sees it? If not, we must repent and walk in the light with God. Read v.12 again. What does it mean to you personally?
Moses appeals for the grace of God (vs.13-17) in which we will find refuge.

Closing Prayer
As we end the year and move into another, teach us, dear Lord, to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
