Scripture Union Daily Guide – 26TH December 2024 Outline

An angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds watching over their flock by night to bring some good news to the world. The news which the angels brought was joyful news not only to the shepherds but also to the whole world. The Saviour, the Christ, the promised Messiah, had been born in Bethlehem.

Observe the joy and the zeal with which the angels brought the announcement! So good was the news that a whole host of heavenly angels joined the angel to praise God (vs.10-14). Note the content of the chorus in v.14. Is Christ Jesus in your life? Are you experiencing the peace which comes with faith in Christ Jesus, and is your life bringing glory to God, Most High?

The shepherds did something about the information they received (vs.15-20). Their action in vs.17&20 is a good example to follow. Recognising that the good news was not for them alone, but for all the people (v.10), “they spread the word concerning the child” (cf. 2 Kings 7:9). Christians should be zealous for the proclamation of the Gospel and do so with speed. The Gospel, that Christ Jesus is Saviour, is worth proclaiming since it brings peace and joy to those who believe.

Action: Read the message of the angels and study the action of the shepherds and decide on an action to take.
