Scripture Union Daily Guide – 18TH December 2024 Outline

God knew that the older people were not impressed with the new building when compared with Solomon’s magnificent Temple. Notice God’s message to them (vs.6-9). In our modern days, people are drawn to outward signs of beauty, wealth, and status. Churches want their church buildings to be impressive and majestic. Our emphasis should rather be on holy living and pleasing God. In our walk with the Lord, we should not be captivated by external signs of beauty and success, but rather allow the presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit to be the glory of God that is in us for all to see.

Haggai did not only speak strong words of judgment to the people of Judah, but also promised God’s blessings if they repent and obey God and carry out His business. God showed His desire to bless His people, “even (when) the seed is still in the barn” (v.19). God can bless us when we make His work our priority.

Haggai did not only bring God’s word to Zerubbabel, but he also encouraged the leaders in the face of difficulties (v.23). We are often prone to criticizing and pouring insults on our leaders. Our leaders need words of encouragement. Let us pray for and encourage them as they seek to address the numerous challenges confronting our countries (1 Tim. 2: 1- 4).

Practice/Word Application
So what? First spend time to pray for your national, church or fellowship leaders, then say a word of encouragement to them today.
