Today’s Topic: A True Friend

Today’s Scripture
“The Son of Man…‘a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’” Luke 7:34, NIV

Today’s Word
Jesus was the friend of sinners. He lived as a healer, a restorer of those who got off course. Somebody once said, “A true friend walks in when everybody else walks out. A true friend doesn’t rub it in when you make a mistake. They help rub it out.” That is exactly what Jesus did, and that is what we should do. It doesn’t mean you overlook wrongs and act as if they never happened. But you understand that if it were not for the grace of God, you, too, could be in need of healing.

When you show mercy to the guilty, when you encourage the discouraged, when you lift people up as everyone else is pushing them down, your actions touch the heart of God in a very special way. Are you sensitive to the needs of those around you? When you make it your business to befriend and help God’s children—His sons, His daughters—by wiping their tears or lifting them when they are down, be prepared: You will not be able to outrun the goodness of God.

Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You for the people You have placed in my life and the special role You have given me as a friend. Thank You that You can take my words of encouragement and bring healing and renewed strength. Help me to see who I can befriend and lift up today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

TODAY’S INSPIRATIONAL: It’s interesting; God could have chosen someone that matched up much better with Goliath. He could have chosen the soldier who was the most skilled, most trained, or the biggest and strongest. Then, it would be a much fairer fight: two champions competing. But notice how God works. David had all the odds against him. It didn’t make sense. If David would have only looked at it from a logical point of view, we wouldn’t be talking about him. But David understood this principle that he was created to defy the odds. There are levels of your destiny that you cannot reach without being outnumbered and over your head.

God will do things that seem impossible. Jesus spoke to Lazarus. He came out of the tomb. From then on, he was a testimony wherever he went of the favor of God. It’s one thing to have a healing, but God wanted something better: a resurrection. Sometimes, God will let the odds be against you in a greater way. It doesn’t make sense, but God is up to something. Trust Him when you don’t understand. Stay in faith when He doesn’t show up in time. He has something coming better than you’ve imagined.
