Besides ‘blaspheming’ Moses, Stephen was also accused of “speaking against the Temple” (6:13).

Notice how he addresses this matter:
* The tabernacle of the Testimony (vs.44-47): As a symbol of God’s presence, the tabernacle of the Testimony was built according to specifications given by God. Which epochs around the tabernacle of Testimony does Stephen emphasize? What does this tell you about the depth of Stephen’s knowledge of the history of Israelites?

* Where exactly does the Most High dwell (vs.48-50): Without disregarding or diminishing the importance of the Temple, Stephen knew that it was a symbol of the dwelling place of God. It was never equivalent to God, nor was it His permanent dwelling place.

The actual dwelling place of God is circumcised hearts that embrace and obey the Holy Spirit. Have you allowed God to dwell in your heart? Although sanctuaries are necessary for worship and fellowship, they cannot replace the need to have Jesus in our hearts and God’s Spirit among us (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:19).

* A stern rebuke (vs.51-53): How does Stephen describe his listeners in these verses? Beware of resisting the Holy Spirit. Beware of mistreating those who proclaim the Good News. Beware of disobeying the law of the Lord!

‣ The Lord will grant their hearts desire according to His riches in glory.
