Scripture Union Daily Guide – 16TH December 2024 Outline:

We may not know when in particular in the history of David he wrote this Psalm. Some of his “I am’”s” are worthy of note:
a. I am poor (v.1). Poverty may not necessarily be in terms of material or monetary things. A kind of poverty that drives you closer to God for guidance (v.2) and makes you devoted to Him is indeed a good one to emulate.
b. I am needy (v.1): No one can ever outlive his or her need of God. If you are so rich in worldly things to the point you feel you do not need Him, then, you have a problem. It is good to know our needs.

We can identify some of David’s needs from the rest of the passage: mercy (vs.3,5), joy (v.4), forgiveness (v.5) and fellowship (v.16). It is right to pray for a sign of God’s goodness (v.17). As David found, it may be just what we need. But let us not overlook the signs He has already given – the support of family and friends, the fellowship of other Christians, the light of each day. And we can be confident that He knows our situation no matter how desperate it becomes, and that He cares for us.
Identify the qualities of those who know God from the rest of the passage.

* Any new insight or reinforcement of what you already know?
