Paul now gives instructions to help strengthen the faith of these young believers he loves so very much, lessons on how to live in order to please God” (v.ı). They are lessons we too musSt apply to our lives.
“Sanctification” (v) is the act of being a saint, holy and righteous, set apart for the work of God. One
aspect of this is sexual purity which differentiates Christians from unbelievers (vs). Paul describes it as a matter of holiness and honour into which God has called us, and for which each one of us will give an account to the One who gives us His Holy Spirit (vs.6-8). Closely related is the commandment to love on another (vs.6, 9, 1o), for which the Macedonian Christians were a good example.
One other instruction is to do with hard work; and we know that he himself had set them the example for this (2:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:8). What two reasons does he give for it in v.2? How true are these in your church and in your life?
Practice/Word Application
So what? Contrary to what Paul says in v.I2, the Church, sadly, has lost a lot of respect from the outside world. What can you, personally, do about it?

HOLINESS UNTO THE LORD
1 “Called unto holiness,” Church of our God,
Purchase of Jesus, redeemed by His blood;
Called from the world and its idols to flee,
Called from the bondage of sin to be free.

This blessed secret to faith now made plain,
Not our own righteousness, but Christ within,
Living and reigning and saving from sin.
4 “Called unto holiness,” glorious thought!
Up from the wilderness wanderings brought,
Out from the shadows and darkness of night,
Into the Canaan of perfect delight.
5 “Called unto holiness,” Bride of the Lamb,
Waiting the Bridegroom’s returning again;
Lift up your heads, for the day draweth near
When in His beauty the King shall appear.
Closing Prayer
Pray for grace to be sanctified and prosperous.
Offer a prayer of faith in line with Genesis 27:29
“Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.”
